CPAC’s 2009 Juried Members Show opens Friday, June 19th at Denver’s Edge Gallery, with a free public reception 6 - 10 pm that evening. Edge is located at 3658 Navajo St, 80218. Gallery hours are Friday 7 PM -10 PM, Saturday and Sunday 12 PM -5 PM. The show runs through July 12.
Forty pieces from 27 different artists were chosen for the show by juror Loretta Young-Gautier, Associate Director of The Camera Obscura Gallery. The exhibit features a vast selection of photographic styles and subjects, including, traditional landscapes, still life images, animal subjects, travel, and abstractions as well as themes related to cultural and societal issues. Traditional silver prints and contemporary digital giclee as well as C prints are represented. A full list of participating artists and more images will be published here soon.
Four artists were awarded top honors for their work. Richard Cummings was presented Best of Show for his outstanding photo, “Veiled Nude” (above). Gifford Ewing, a respected national traditional photographer garnered Second Place for his image of the “Setting Moon at the Great Sand Dunes” (below). John Bonath received Third Place for “Thorny Pod” and Tom Haygood received Honorable Mention for his unique reflected abstraction of downtown Denver.
In the Edge Associate Gallery, Jessica Ellis and Felecia Ashby, two emerging photographers from Denver, are being featured as a companion exhibit (see previous post for details of their work).
Also featured at the show will be newly printed works by the late-20th century Pictorialist photographer R. Ewing Stiffler. These will be available for sale with a membership donation of $150. The pieces were chosen from CPAC’s 600-print collection and were featured in our Westword “Best of Denver” show at Gallery Roach - Roach Photos, Denver in 2006.
